West Yorkshire Schools Of Karate & Oriental Arts

Welcome to the home page of West Yorkshire Schools Of Karate & Oriental Arts or WYSOK for short. We are a martial arts association with clubs around Wakefield, Leeds & Selby. Most of our clubs have Wado Ryu Karate as their main focus but we do also have Ju Jitsu and Kickboxing clubs within the association.

At our martial arts classes you and your children will learn effective ways to defend yourself and your family, but that is only the start of the martial arts journey. WYSOK clubs offer children and adults alike the training, support and encouragement they need to help develop their mind, body and spirit. The traditional nature of the martial arts training we offer will also foster traditional values such as discipline, respect and integrity. We feel these values are vital in helping both children and adults succeed at school/work and in life.

When people find out I am a martial artist one of the first question I am asked is “have you ever had to use what you have learnt”. I could go on for hours answering this question but in short my answer is “yes, everyday”. That is not to say that I spend my time fighting in the streets. But anyone that has spent time training in the martial arts will tell you that it becomes part of you, the things you learn in training affect the way you see and react to things in everyday life.

A common thing new adult students say to me is that they wish they had started martial arts training years ago. It may be true that the best time to start is 10 or 20 years ago, but the next best time to start is right now.

Come along to one of our clubs, I am sure it will be the best decision you have made in a long time.
